How does leveraging digital technology in the classroom support deeper learning opportunities for students? Leveraging digital could be the most powerful of the four elements in the deep learning movement. Leveraging digital accelerates access to knowledge beyond the classroom and cultivates student-driven deep learning. This is a story about how Grade 5 students are leveraging digital to create real-life assistive devices for members of their community, and it all started with a science unit about the human body!
Teachers from the Kahukura cluster in Christchurch discuss the ways in which the use of digital technologies helps to accelerate progress towards deep learning outcomes. Using the rubrics provided as part of the NPDL project has helped them move their use of digital technologies beyond the things they had already been doing.
A simple summary of Dr. Ruben R. Puentedura's SAMR model. SAMR is a model for infusing technology into learning experiences.
